The Value of Torture in Iraq

There are two outcomes of torture in Iraq upon the target (future potential torture victims – Iraqi nationalists, civilians, and fighters). Cowing and radicalizing. I’m not sure which the Bush Administration prefers – cowing leads to easier control, allowing large stable profits to be generated for American and British multinationals. Radicalizing leads to an increase in worldwide terrorism as well as an increase in militant activity within Iraq, which fuels the American war profiteers and military industries. Torture is a win-win situation – it avoids the biggest fear of the Bush Administration, which is a rational, determined populace fighting through the political arena and calling on worldwide support for their cause. We can expect the Bush Administration to increase the use and degree of torture if their global projects become jeopardized.
