Modern Humor

November 1, 2006

There is one unique aspect of some of the humor of the past few years. Chappelle, Stewart, Colbert. Its extremely good-natured. Chappelle went so far as to make it explicit, talking about what he was trying to accomplish through his humor (love and brotherhood). Prior to this crop, very few comics placed overt emphasis on anything but the joke itself.

It seems that these more recent comics are trying to counteract the notion of the world as a bad place. The regular people that appear in these skits are invariability much more appealing than either actors or the semi-regular people on reality TV shows. They are open with the tremendous fun they have performing, even lowering the barrier at times between person and performer.
